In the pics below, I'm building a giant sawhorse and attaching a block and tackle in its center. This combination will act as an ersatz engine lift.
My neighbor Stephen helped with the heavy lifting -- that motor/tranny combo probably comes to about 300 lbs (probably should have actually weighed it...) and we had to carry it up the steps to get out of the basement.
